When the Spanish designer Miguel Milá suggested that we make a gently arching lever handle from a flat steel hoop, we first thought that Milá was resurrecting a form familiar from the work of Wilhelm Wagenfeld and his followers.
But we were to discover that, by grace of organic curvature, Miguel Milá's steel handle boasted hitherto unknown formal properties. His design is an inventive re-interpretation of an old motif, the fusing of a round shank and a flat steel band into a single entity.
