Merck Serono Headquarters
The new headquarters for Merck Serono, a global pharmaceutical company, designed by Chicago based architects Murphy Jahn, was completed in 2007. The headquarters consist of 3 existing buildings and 3 new ones, designed to compliment the 1950's industrial character. The new campus style building creates a 'knowledge village' for its 1200 employees and brings together the administrative, research and development departments all under one roof. The 6 linked buildings offers 40,000m² of office and laboratory space, with additional facilities including a conference area, restaurant, crèche, café, library and fitness centre.
The interiors scheme for the Headquarters was awarded to Mackay + Partners, who have created a series of overlappring schemes that combine Serono's corporate technically advanced image, with the contemporary openess of the building's glass and steel structure. The aim was to provide an environment that enabled the interaction of its people within and with the public and to promote the collective vision of the company.
