UCLH
The University College London Hospital, completed in 2005 and providing over 76,000sq.m of space, comprises a 17 storey Tower of Ward accommodation containing approximately 680 beds, a podium block containing out-patient block containing out-patient facilities, operating theatres, an Atrium providing entrance facilities and a 2 storey basement within which are located radio-diagnostic, radiotherapy and related facilities.
With the issue of controlling Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAIs) becoming increasingly at the forefront in the public consciousness, it was important for the NHS Foundation Trust to ensure that infection control was designed into the building. By using BioCote, the anti-microbial coating inhibits the growth of micro-organisms such a MRSA, E-Coli and Salmonella, Allgood minimised the risk of HAI's occurring on the ironmongery supplied.
Allgood also worked closely with the door supplier to ensure the smoothest supply of the project. To reduce on-site labour costs, all non-projecting ironmongery items such as hinges, lockcases, flushbolts and morticed shearlocks were pre-fitted to the doors off site prior to delivery. This guaranteed quality fixing of the items. Furthermore, the doors were factory prepared for the remaining ironmongery, whilst the ironmongery itself was packed into individual door packs, marked with the door number and sent to site to facilitate efficient fitting.
