Sowwah Square

Sowwah Square is a development of buildings consisting of four luxury high-rise towers that provide 285,000 square metres of office space, one retail area and the new Stock Exchange of Abu Dhabi. The Sowwah Square office towers are positioned around the stock exchange.

Gensler’s scope in the project was with regards to the Stock Exchange building, the retail area and the car parks. Allgood’s initial involvement with the project was through creating specifications for these areas. The remaining four office towers were designed by Goettsch, an Amercian architect. As Genlser were working closely with Goettsch, an introduction was made and the American practice were suitably impressed with our initial work with Gensler’s to ask Allgood to get involved with the four towers, keeping consistency throughout the project.

The scale of the project brought many challenges. Not only did Allgood create a comprehensive specification for every one of the 2,600 doors throughout the project but a mixture of timber, metal and glazed doors meant that every door required a unique solution. Although working closely with both architectural practices, the final ironmongery specification was developed over a 4 year period.

To enhance the interior aesthetic, Gensler wanted to design bespoke lever and pull handles based on a semi-circular grip profile. Allgood worked closely with the architects to produce the handle which was installed on the Stock Exchange building and has since been made part of Allgood’s product portfolio in the form of the 3520 lever handles and the 1720 pull handles.

The Goettsch designed towers required a different design aesthetic and the architects decided to use the Sembla range of door furniture, specifying Sembla levers and matching pulls throughout the four office towers. Although the various buildings had differing handle designs, consistency of material and finish was maintained by manufacturing the furniture from grade 316 satin stainless steel.

The client required the building to perform to the highest standards. To ensure that the ironmongery would perform faultlessly, only the most durable mechanical hardware was specified throughout the project. Locks, cylinders, closers and panic devices were all specified with 10 year guarantees whilst the hinges were supplied with 25 year guarantees.
