Co-op Live – The UK’s Largest Indoor Arena

The Co-op Live Arena in Manchester is one of the UK’s most high-profile live event venues. Designed by Populous for the biggest events in entertainment, the arena required an access solution to match its scale and purpose

Allgood was appointed by BAM to supply and install door automation for 25 pairs of internal doors leading to the main arena bowl.

While the automation needed to function efficiently and safely, its aesthetic was also carefully considered. As a result, we provided automatic operators, each in an aluminium finish with bespoke infill sections for a seamless look.

To maintain a consistent aesthetic across all access points, we also supplied Modric® pull handles and push plates. Inspired by Bauhaus principles, the range’s clean lines and grade 316 solid stainless-steel guarantee both durability and a refined finish.

This aligned with the arena’s contemporary interior, and ensuring reliable performance under the demands of continuous use.

The result is a specification that works visually and functionally, with automation and ironmongery sharing a consistent aesthetic across the arena. Unobtrusive by design, Modric sits quietly in the background, operating reliably for years to come in the most testing of environments.

Safe by Design

The operators were configured to keep the doors open during normal use, with safety actions in place for fire alarms either releasing the hold-open or powering the doors open to support air pressure control. Depending on the location, the doors were either locked when not in use or didn’t require locking at all.

All systems were installed in line with EN16005 safety regulations to ensure smooth, reliable operation in high-traffic areas. With our fully accredited engineers on site, every detail met the rigorous safety standards required for public spaces like Co-op Live, where smooth flow and user protection are essential.

As a Constructionline Gold Member, we brought verified compliance in health and safety, quality, and risk management to the Co-op Live project, assuring all parties that our work met and exceeds strict industry standards.

More Than a Product

Despite many on-site challenges, Allgood delivered the full installation on time, working to the updated programme and ensuring the automation systems were ready as the venue opened.

Tim Leiweke, Oak View Group CEO said:

Co-op Live will put Manchester back where it deserves to be, as a global entertainment powerhouse.”

Since its completion, the system has held up well under the intense pressure of day-to-day use. The operators have continued to perform reliably. This reinforces the value of choosing the right specification from the outset.

The on-site challenges tested the whole team. They demonstrated how Allgood deliver more than a product: a complete, reliable solution. From technical specification to go-live, Allgood supported every stage with consistency, clarity, and delivery built around performance.

Allgood produces over 100,000 products each year and manufactures 25% of its product range in-house. Over 75% of the supply chain operates within 20 miles of Allgood’s Birmingham facility. Additionally, Allgood provides a 25-year manufacturing warranty on product ranges designed to perform for the entire life of a building.
